Error messages on bank payments – what they mean and what to do

An explanation of the most common error messages when paying from Catacloud (KID/OCR, funds, access rights, account number, remittance) and how to fix them.

Written by Florence C.L.H. Kröger-Smedmann

Why do I get error messages in English or with codes?

Payments from Catacloud are sent via our payment partner to your bank. When a payment stops, the error message usually comes from the bank – which is why it is often in English or shown as a code (e.g. "AM04" or "RR09"). Below you'll find the most common messages, what they mean, and what to do.

Where do I see the status of payments?

Go to Bank → Payments. There you'll find the tabs For approval, Bank processing, Rejected, Paid, and All.

"Bank processing" means the bank has accepted the payment and it is on its way. In this phase, the payment normally cannot be changed or deleted – wait until the due date, or contact the bank if it needs to be stopped.

KID errors (the most common)

"OCR agreement not found for creditor account", "Creditor Account requires OCR/Structured Creditor", or "RR09 – Structured creditor reference invalid or missing"

OCR is the technical name for KID. These messages mean that something is wrong with the KID number on the payment:

  • Wrong or invalid KID: Check that the KID is entered correctly, without spaces or special characters, and that the account number matches the invoice.

  • KID where there should be no KID: If you are paying a private individual (e.g. an expense reimbursement), KID should not be used – use the message field instead.
Note: a message must contain at least one character that is not a number, otherwise it is interpreted as a KID.

  • Recipient requires KID: Some recipients have "mandatory KID" – in that case a valid KID from the invoice must be entered.

Note: A single payment with an incorrect KID can in some cases reject the entire payment batch. Fix the one payment and resend.

Funds and amount

  • "AM04 – Insufficient funds" / "Funding transaction rejected": Insufficient funds in the account on the due date, or the amount exceeds the bank's limit. Make sure there are funds and re-enter the payment. If the money was withdrawn and then refunded, the funds arrived too late – the payment must be resent.

  • "AM02": The amount exceeds the permitted maximum. Check the amount limit in your bank agreement.

Access and approval

  • "AG08 – invalid or missing user rights": The user lacks rights at the bank. Common causes: a new BankID, a first-time approver, or that access at the bank is not set up. Contact the bank to verify the rights.

  • "PSU does not have access to the account": The user lacks payment access on the account – the bank's administrator must grant approval rights.

  • "DS24" (timed out): The BankID signing was not completed in time. Unsigned payments are automatically cancelled after about 25 minutes – approve again.

  • "DS02 – An authorized user has cancelled the order": Someone has cancelled the payment, often in online banking. Check internally before re-entering it.

  • Two approvers: If the company requires two signatures, the approval flow depends on the agreement with the bank.

    • In some cases, both must approve in Catacloud before the payment is sent to the bank.

    • In other cases, the first approval happens in the system, and then the payment must be given final approval in online banking.

This is not controlled by Catacloud, but by the setup and agreement established with the bank.

Account number

  • "AC01/AC02" (debtor account invalid): A problem with the account being paid from – check the bank account in Catacloud and the bank agreement.

  • "AC03" (creditor account invalid): A problem with the recipient's account number. For international payments: use IBAN and BIC/SWIFT, not a Norwegian account number.

  • "AC04/AC06" (account closed/blocked): The recipient's account is closed or blocked – contact the recipient for the correct account number.

Remittance information

  • "RR07 – Remittance information invalid": The payment has been rejected because the remittance information (message field) has an incorrect structure or content. This is a technical error that cannot be resolved by the customer – contact us in the chat with the client name, amount and exact error message, and we will escalate to the payment partner.

Agreement, currency, and other

  • "NARR – No agreement" or a general NARR error: The bank agreement is missing or set up incorrectly. Contact the bank and verify that the agreement is activated.

  • "RR04 – Regulatory reason": The payment has been stopped for regulatory reasons – contact the bank with the payment details.

  • "RR05" / currency payment over NOK 100,000: Requires reporting to the currency register – the declaration code/text must be filled in.

  • "Payment date in the past": The due date on the payment has passed. Delete the payment, update the due date and resend.

  • "International payment service is closed during weekend": International payments are not processed on weekends – the payment goes through on the first business day.

  • "Duplicate payment": Possible double payment. Check whether the first payment actually went through before you resend – otherwise you risk paying twice.

How to fix a rejected payment

  1. Go to Bank → Payments → Rejected and read the error message.

  2. Delete the rejected payment.

  3. Fix the cause (KID, account number, funds, etc.).

  4. Register the payment again: open the voucher in the accounts payable ledger → OptionsRegister payment → choose the bank account.

  5. Approve under Bank → Payments → For approval.

Need to cancel a payment that has already been sent to the bank? See the article Cancelling a payment.
